Why Not You?
This week I heard someone share an idea that has stuck with me.
When we face hard times, we may call out to God saying, “Why me?” If we will take the time to listen to His response, however, we may find Him to say, “Why not you?” This may sound mean at first, but it’s actually quite exciting.
When God wanted to do something significant through people in the Bible, they were often scared to death. They, too would call out, “Why me?” God’s response, however, always indicated that they were going to be tools of God’s glory – that His grace would be sufficient for them – that He would do through them what only He could do (far beyond what they could do apart from Him).
This is true for you, too. Your circumstances and challenges are not happenstance; God can use them all for His glory and your growth – all of them.
In John 9, Jesus’ disciples came across a man blind from birth. They asked Jesus who sinned or caused this blindness – in a sense they said, “Why him?” Jesus said, “This happened so the work of God might be displayed in his life.” (John 9:3) Little could the man have imagined that in a matter of moments the glory of God would be so powerfully manifest in his life that it would be recorded for thousands of years!
Are you facing any impossible things in your life that make you say, “Why me?” It could be something that seems too big to ever change. Or it could be a chronic situation that you have had to deal with for a long time. Whatever the case, are there things in your life that are causing you to ask God, “Why me?” I want to encourage you today to change your question. It’s time to change your attitude and focus and say, “Why not me? God, release your power and grace in my and use these circumstances for you glory!”
