How Do You See God?
Take a few steps with your imagination – past your immediate life and circumstances, your relationships, your city, nation, hemisphere – beyond the globe, our solar system, and galaxy – beyond the universe – bigger and beyond it all is God. What’s He like; how do you perceive Him?
In Psalm 103 David describes God and His Kingdom in ways that draw us into worship. The Creator is also the Healer. He is the One who invented and lives in love and compassion. He created us with desires that are most clearly satisfied through His personal provision. He is gracious, slow to anger and forgiving. He particularly works His truth in and through those who rightly acknowledge Him – those who search out His ways and obey Him. His Kingdom can never be shaken; and He will be worshiped forever and ever and ever.
Is this how you perceive and experience God? Do such descriptions of Him give your soul a place to rest, and ignite your heart towards worship? The real God is above and beyond all things. He is not to be used, but to be worshiped. All people and things will fall down before Him in utter awe and devotion. He is complete, holy and perfect, yet compassionate, caring and helpful. He is ever present and observing your thoughts even at this moment. You need never be lonely, for He is with you and He will lead you – if you will seek Him.
“He made His ways known to Moses, His deeds to the people of Israel: The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in love.” (Psalm 103:7-8) Moses spent face-to-Face time with the Lord. So, he learned God’s ways and insights. He received counsel from the Lord – and even recorded some of it for us. Israel got to see the works of the Lord. That, too, was a privilege. Many people never notice what God has done or is doing.
Our goal needs to be to see what He’s doing and seek Him for understanding – what is the underlying truth and principles of what’s going on. Scripture unveils what’s under it all – “The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in love.” The Lord – His purposes and character are under all things. Look for Him; connect with Him; and learn to walk in His ways – for “His Kingdom rules over all.” (103:19) You can walk in ignorance of His ways; you can walk in obstinance; or you can live in awe of your Creator. You will do well to make and intentional lifestyle choice. “Praise the Lord, O my soul!”
