Be Blessed

What are the deep inner needs that people have? We all want to be accepted, to find a measure of joy and happiness, to have a sense of direction and purpose, to be whole and to be connected to others and God. This is a rounded and healthy life.

There are many aspects of life that seem to war against our sense of balance and wholeness. The robbers of pace, worry, false comfort, fragmentation, isolation, and inner loneliness seem to turn the knobs of the doors and jimmy the windows of our souls seeking entry any way possible. Sometimes the temptations pound at the door, trying to intimidate us into compliance. Other times these life stealers try to sneak in the back way by luring us into negative thoughts and actions through the promises of immediate gratification.

The Bible, however, describes a life marked by God’s blessing. His blessing includes a sense of His presence, favor and help. The blessing of God brings a deep sense of fulfillment and hope. And though the blessing-robbers come through complex and convoluted ways, entering God’s blessing is quite simple. Exodus records God’s words, “Wherever I cause My name to honored, I will come and bless you.” (Exodus 20:24)

This passage, written some 3,500 years ago by Moses, was specifically referring to the building of a simple altar of worship. The point, however, is very relevant for today. God’s blessing is attracted to the places His name is honored. This can be as simple as two or three people gathering for prayer. Jesus said, “Where two or three come together in My name, there am I with them.” (Matthew 18:20) God’s blessing is the natural (or supernatural) result of honest worship. Lives that worship God generally experience God’s blessing.

Our heart longings for relationship, guidance, identity and completeness are most clearly and lastingly met in God. God’s blessing rests upon the people who worship Him. Wherever His name is honored, His blessing resides. Worship God with your mouth – declare His greatness and your commitment to Him. Worship God with your life – walk in His ways. You can live in a state of blessing by living a life of worship.

Blessed with you,

Pastor Tom Griffith
